Interviewing Kurt Masur, Steven Isserlis, Larry Todd and Daniel Hope, the film traces Sheila Hayman's family tree, right back to the famous composer, Felix Mendelssohn.

Klassische Musik mögen viele. Aber gerade dort, wo man sie in ihrer ganzen Schönheit "live" und authentisch erleben kann, im Konzertsaal, fühlen sich manche fremd und unbehaglich. Das liegt nicht zuletzt an überkommenen Traditionen und Ritualen, die sich dem Laien nur schwer erschließen. Das führt dazu, dass viele Menschen dem Konzert fernbleiben und sich die Musik zu Hause auf CD anhören. Daniel Hope plädiert in "Foyer" für das Live-Konzert und einen lockeren Umgang mit Traditionen und Ritualen im Konzertsaal.
